CLINICAL LABORATORY REGULARITIES OF PREGNANCY COURSE IN PATIENTS WITH OBESITY AND THE METABOLIC SYNDROME

A total of 685 pregnant patients with obesity and the metabolic syndrome were examined. The characteristic obstetrical complications were detected and the relevant prognostic criteria were defi ned. The time course of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, hemostasis, hormonal pro fi les, and renal function during gestation was evaluated. Speci fi c features of endothelial dysfunction, placentation, and vasculogenesis were detected.Key words: pregnancy; metabolic syndrome; obesity; pre-eclampsia; threatened abortion; insulin resistance.
