Multimedia data streaming server and method for changing a traffic in response to network bandwidth condition

A multimedia data streaming server for varying the amount of data transmission according to a network bandwidth condition and a method thereof are provided to analyze the network bandwidth condition by itself, thereby detecting a change of the network bandwidth condition more quickly. A streaming server acquires and transmits multimedia data in response to the streaming request of the multimedia data of a multimedia reproduction apparatus(S31). The streaming server monitors a network bandwidth condition periodically(S32). The streaming server checks whether the network bandwidth condition is more deteriorated than a former network bandwidth condition(S33). The streaming server checks whether the amount of data, which can be transmitted through a current network bandwidth, is smaller than a default value and checks whether a transmission level suitable for the current network bandwidth condition is a default level when the network bandwidth condition is deteriorated(S34). The streaming server sets the transmission level of the multimedia data to the default level, and acquires and transmits the multimedia data at the default level when the transmission level suitable for the current network bandwidth condition is the default level(S35). The streaming server transmits multimedia data at a transmission level above the current transmission level when the transmission level suitable for the current network bandwidth condition is not the default level(S36). The streaming server transmits multimedia data at a transmission level below the current transmission level when the network bandwidth condition is improved(S37,S38). The streaming server transmits the multimedia data maintaining the current transmission level when the network bandwidth condition is identical with a former network bandwidth condition(S39).
