A model for tension estimator in web-fed printing press

In this paper, we introduced the tension variation in web-fed printing system and presented the model for tension estimation based on the Hooker's Law and the theory of Dynamic Moment model. The coupling relations of tension and velocity in each tension zone of web-fed printing machine is analyzed and presented. Firstly, the model of tension estimation in unwinding units is proposed. It shows that the relationship between the tension and the velocity is nonlinear. Secondly, the model of tension estimation in printing units is proposed, and the condition of keeping tension constant is determined. Finally, the paper proposed a model for the distributions of tension and strain in winding roller, to solve the problem that the substrate is folded and the thickness of substrate is not uniform during the winding process. Tension estimation in such a process plays an important role for assuring both high product quality and safe process operation.
