Self-exploding capsules

Self-exploding microcapsules are core-shell capsules that consist of a degradable microgel core surrounded by a semi-permeable membrane. When the microgel core degrades, the swelling pressure increases and finally the rupture of the surrounding membrane leads to release of the encapsulated species. This type of capsule could find applications in fields such as e.g. drug delivery, tissue engineering and microfluidics.
