The determination of the modal forces acting on three buildings using wind tunnel methods

Abstract A one component balance transducer system is described which enables model scale building dynamic responses to suitably modelled incident wind flow regimes to be evaluated. The modelling technique is used to examine the dynamic response characteristics, and consequently the dynamic wind loads, of three model buildings in some detail at model scale and, by using suitable scaling methods, at full scale. In addition, the scaled up model data are compared with equivalent full scale results obtained from prediction methods devised by both ESDU and the NBS.
