The article presents comprehensive transport accident information for road, rail, civil aviation and merchant shipping. The information is almost entirely from official sources. Deaths due to disease, homicide, and suicide, where identified, are excluded. Road and rail data refer to Great Britain; for civil aviation and merchant shipping, the accidents refer to British registered craft wherever they occurred. All types of road user are treated as a single group. Rail and aviation fatalities are classified into passengers, staff or crew, and third parties. Trespassers are also included in rail fatalities. It is not possible to produce a comprehensive list of individual road accidents because there are no published reports. Tables are given of rail and merchant shipping accidents with four or more fatalities and civil aviation accidents with five or more fatalities. Road accidents with ten or more fatalities are tabulated. For the covering abstract see IRRD 875983.
