Analysis and modeling of a two-input DC/DC converter with two controlled variables and four switched networks

A two-input tri-state DC/DC converter was presented by the authors (1994) capable of performing solar array peak-power tracking, battery power conditioning, and output voltage regulation all within the same converter structure. At light loads and during periods of low insolation, converter operation will naturally evolve through four linear switched networks. In this paper, the small-signal stability of the tri-state converter is analyzed and a large-signal averaged model is derived capable of predicting the dynamic behavior during and following transitions to and from this fourth state.
