Airbags are primarily designed to supplement the protection provided by seat belts. Their non-deployment results into severe injuries. Preliminary measures are to be adopted to reduce the possibility of non-deployment. Regardless low traffic volume, most fatal accidents happen at night due to low visibility and ineffectiveness of drivers. In this paper, a redundant mechanism is purposed to deploy airbags at night. Distance of proceeding vehicle is measured using visual sensor. If the speed of vehicle is such that collision is inevitable for measured distance, airbag is purposed to deploy beforehand.
