Kinds of Thinking Taught in Current Programs.

A mong my childhood memories is that of my parents scolding me for not thinking before doing something that produced an unhappy and, to them, predictable consequence. They assumed-probably rightly--that their task was not teaching me how to think but motivating me to do so. Surely, in one sense, all of us know how to think without being taught; the problem is to get us to do so with some consistency. The admonition to think before acting, to consider the possible consequences of our actions before committing to them, is one that
