In this paper a tightly coupled multiprocessor system consisting of a state of the art digital signal processing (DSP) microprocessor (TMS32020) and a 16 bit personal computer (PC), which is useful for the development of real-time expert control, is described. A brief description of the use of expert system techniques in control systems is also presented. The expert system can be introduced in the feedback loop to improve the control function or the expert system can be used to supervise the multiple feedback loop control system to perform intelligent control/alarm operations. The use of multiprocessor system introduces concurrent operation of expert system/man-machine communication by 8088 processor, and the numerical calculation or execution of control/identification or supervision algorithms by TMS 32025 processor.
