The IEEE Communications Society's Lifetime Recognition Award, presented on rare occasions to individuals who have made particularly important contributions to both technical fields and the Society's activities, was presented on May 14, 2010 to Paul E. Green, Jr. The award is conferred by special vote of the Society's Board of Governors. Past President Steve Weinstein and past IEEE Region 8 Awards Chair Hans Peek made the presentation of the award, represented by a crystal bowl, to Dr. Green in his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The inscription on the base reads: "To Paul Green, for a lifetime of great contributions, with love and respect from your colleagues in the IEEE Communications Society."
