A region-of-interest (ROI) template for three-dimensional stereotactic surface projection (3D-SSP) images: Initial application to analysis of Alzheimer disease and mild cognitive impairment

Abstract In this article, we constructed a region-of-interest (ROI) template for Z-score images of three-dimensional stereotactic surface projections (3D-SSP); we superimposed it on Z-score images constructed from the brain perfusion SPECT data of 15 Alzheimer disease (AD) patients and 10 mild cognitive impairment (MCI) patients, and we obtained mean Z-scores of each ROI. The results indicated that use of 3D-SSP methods and the ROI template enabled automated quantitative evaluation of brain perfusion SPECT in AD and MCI. This method can be applied to the analysis of brain functional images in other neurologic disorders.
