"Positive" Tc-99m red blood cell scintigraphy in a patient with hepatic lymphoma.

Tc-99m red blood cell (RBC) scintigraphy is a very specific method for the diagnosis of hepatic hemangioma and false-positive cases have been rarely reported. The authors present an interesting case in which markedly increased blood pool was seen on Tc-99m RBC scintigraphy in a patient with an hepatic mass. However, the "positive" RBC scan did not explain the entire abnormality seen on the colloid liver scan. Therefore, an additional mass was suspected and further investigation revealed hepatic lymphoma.
