Use of Fuel Conservation Devices and Techniques by Motor Freight Carriers: A Survey Report

The United States presently relies upon foreign imports for approximately 50 per cent of its oil supply, compared to only 35 per cent in 1973. Moreover, the nation is being forced to draw upon its emergency oil reserves; this was not necessary in 1973.3 To counter this growing dependence on relatively unstable and cartel-controlled foreign oil supplies, President Carter re cently announced a three part program call ing for universal conservation, phased de control of crude oil prices, and a massive technological initiative to develop alterna tive sources of power.
