Necesidades de Adiestramiento de Investigación en Medicina Conductual, Psicología de la Salud y Psicooncología en Estudiantes Graduados en Puerto Rico

En Puerto Rico, durante el periodo de 1990 al 2010, la incidencia de todos los tipos de cancer tuvo un aumento gradual estadisticamente significativo a razon de 0.3% cada ano. Igualmente hubo un aumento en la sobrevivencia de un 1% a 2%. Esto ha significado un incremento en la demanda de servicios integrados dada su importancia y su rol en el proceso de sobrevivencia. En la actualidad el tratamiento para la condicion de cancer es mas especializado y complejo. Por lo que existe una gran necesidad de capacitar profesionales preparados para atender a las necesidades psicosociales de los pacientes y sobrevivientes de cancer. No obstante, en Puerto Rico son escasos los recursos de adiestramiento en psico-oncologia. Un total de 113 estudiantes graduados participaron en una encuesta en linea sobre las necesidades de adiestramiento en investigacion. Los resultados sugieren que este es el primer estudio en documentar estas necesidades. Los resultados demuestran un alto nivel de interes en la practica clinica y de investigacion psico-oncologica (80.2%, n=81), pero existe pobre conocimiento general y de oportunidades en adiestramientos especializados (13.6%, n=14) para estudiantes interesados en el campo de la psico-oncologia. Estos resultados demuestran la necesidad de crear nuevas oportunidades de adiestramiento en el area de psico-oncologia.
