Using improved variable dimension fractal to model seawall settlement

Prediction of seawall settlement is important to the engineering maintenance and disaster prevention. A new method based on Improved Variable Dimension Fractal Model (IVDFM) is proposed to predict the seawall settlement. The predicted analysis is presented on the example of a seawall in China. IVDFM can make full use of the self-similarity of fractal theory. The results of IVDFM are more reliable and have better predictive effects than that of the gray model GM (1,1) and artificial neural networks (ANN) model. The method proposed herein has a degree of applicability.
