IMPROVEMENTS IN BOILING HEAT TRANSFER IN CRYOGENIC PLANT: MODEL OF COOPERATION BETWEEN INDUSTRY AND UNIVERSITY

This paper describes and discusses a long term research programme aimed at the improvement of cryogenic air separation plant, as a model of cooperation between industry and univesity. The programme was set up in 1979 between BOC Cryoplants and the University of Southampton and has concentrated on gaining a better understanding from experimental studies of boiling heat transfer in 2000mm long test-sections of reboiler/condenser. These studies are aiding the evaluation of enhanced boiling surfaces for industrial application.
