A Review of Application of GIS in Communications

Geographical information system(GIS) is now widely used in various areas in social activities and in the daily life.Applications of GIS in communications are reviewed in this article.These include GIS-based communication network management,mobile communication service using GIS,GIS-assisted communication maintenance,calculation of base station antenna height and the antenna gain in wireless communication,location of wireless communication base stations,and decision analysis of optical cable selection with assistance of remote sensing and GIS.
