Invited: Future Trend of Static Induction Transistor and Its Application for Integrated Circuits

Static Induction Transistor is discussed from a stand point of figure of merit for high frequency operations. SIT seems most promissing compared with usual bipolar transistors, because of a very small diffusion capacitance of the gate, and with FET, because of a very small time-constant between gate and source. Moreover, it has a suitable structure to manufacture high power devices. To integrate into solid state circuits, it can operate with very high speed as mentioned in the mode similar to CMOS, because the current in on-mode builds up with very small voltage and in off-mode leaks current flow out so slightly even with high voltage.
