Speech coding requirements from the perspective of the future mobile systems

Third generation mobile systems are currently receiving a lot of attention in many parts of the world. They are intended to provide a wide range of services to a large number of users on a universal basis. As far as quality is concerned, the speech coders are one of the most important components of the future mobile systems and therefore a candidate coder is to fulfil some objectives of the future mobile systems. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the evolution of speech coder characteristics and requirements from mobile applications point of view.
