STL file 로부터 사각형 요소망 생성

Models in STL files or similar format are widely used in reverse engineering processes , CAD systems and analysis systems. However the models have poor geometric quality and consist of only triangles, so the models are not suitable for the finite element analysis process. We present a general method of generating quadrilateral meshes from STL models. After given triangular meshes with poor quality, the method estimates triangles and makes clusters which are connected sets of faces. The clusters are created by proposed geometric indices suitable for the quad meshing. We apply a 2D quadrilateral meshing algorithm based on a domain decomposition method on the each cluster , then quadrilateral meshes are projected into the original polygon model. Some results of the method are demonstrated.
