Building a Semantic Repository of Academic Experts

Large amount of experts are key asset that universities hold. In order to increase people's awareness of experts and foster collaborative opportunities, it is necessary to build an expertise repository, which enables campus and external users to identify suitable experts and their expertise. This paper proposes a methodology for constructing semantic repository of academic experts, a semantic Web application that integrates pieces of relevant expertise information from heterogeneous data sources. We also demonstrate how to apply visualization techniques to visualize the research area of academic experts. Tests on this prototype system show that SeRAE supports users browsing and searching experts more efficiently and effectively.
