Utilization of Probe Data for Traffic Flow Control

Probe data is expected as a new technology to collect the spatial traffic information and to improve the traffic flow control toward the carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reduction. As parts of research of the Universal Traffic Management Society (UTMS) of Japan, the authors have been researching on the technologies and specifications to utilize probe data for the traffic flow control since 2008. After two years of researching of the definition of services menu and the basic simulation evaluations, the authors would introduce the additional simulation results and the field verification results using the probe data collected from the vehicle in practical.
