Development and application of navigation-guided craniofacial bone deformity reconstructive and plastic surgery

PURPOSE:To develop the high precision navigation system used on reconstructive and plastic surgery for craniofacial bone deformity.METHODS:(1) Constitution of surgical planning software(TBNAVIS-CMFS) for craniofacial plastic surgery.(2) Creation the navigation workstation based on the optical positioning and tracking system(Polaris).(3) fifty craniofacial deformity cases underwent reconstructive and plastic surgery with the guide of navigation system.RESULTS:TBNAVIS-CMFS provided high precision surgical planning with clear interface and convenient procedures.With the guide of navigation system,the reconstructive and plastic surgery obtains more accurate and reliable results in 50 cases.CONCLUSIONS:Advanced development in the field of computer assisted navigation system enables the craniofacial surgery to be less invasive and more accurate for the support of diagnostic imaging,pre-operative simulation and intraoperative navigation.
