Installed Engine Performance in Dust Laden Atmosphere

Abstract : Aircraft engines operating in areas where the atmosphere is polluted with small solid particles are subjected to erosion damage and consequently, their performance deteriorates. This paper presents the results of an investigation of the solid particles dynamics through a helicopter engine with inlet particle trajectories were determined through the five stage axial flow compressor. The results are presented to show the particle distribution throughout the compressor and the intensity of the particle blade impacts at the various stages.
