Skin Inner Tissue Surface Reconstruction from Confocal Microscope Images

Analysis of skin inner tissue in three-dimensional (3-D) has great significance for cosmetics industry. In our research work, we developed a method of automatically extracting the surface of skin inner tissue from volumetric confocal microscope images, as well as reconstructing a 3-D model. The proposed method is derived from 3-D active contour model. Active contour model is an image segmentation algorithm and is used extensively in computer vision and image processing applications. The improvements on both energy function and initial model are implemented. The proposed technique has been applied in practical experiments successfully
