The loss of the USS Yorktown (CV 5): A marine forensics analysis. Discussion. Authors' closure

In May-June 1998, a scientific expedition under the sponsorhip of the National Geographic Society and the leadership of notec oceanographer Dr. Ballard found the wreck of the carrier Yorktown in 16.650 feet of water wome 150 miles northeast of Midway island. The wreck was surveyed to determine the damage sustained by the Yorktown during the that engagement and her condition after 56 years in the deep ocean environment. This paper briefly documents the design, construction, and career of this famous aircraft carrier.
