Computer-generated holograms: Reconstruction of curves in 3-D

Abstract The complex amplitude of a wave which gives rise to a focal curve of desired shape and position in space is determined in an analytical form and stored in a computer-generated hologram. Optical reconstructions of continuous foci are shown. The resolution limit due to diffraction effects is discussed.
