Online deployment of dynamic traffic assignment: architecture and run-time management

Key issues for the online deployment of dynamic traffic assignment systems are addressed, including model calibration, computational efficiency and system robustness to input data. A case study of the recent deployment of the DynaMIT route guidance system in Los Angeles is provided as an illustration of critical practical aspects in the deployment process. A preliminary evaluation of the system indicates online feasibility from a computational perspective and validates the system's ability to replicate off-line data. Online accuracy tests are promising. Ongoing research approaches to enhance system operation and performance are suggested.
