A SURVEY AND AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF DATA STRUCTURES FOR COMPUTER GRAPHICS SYSTEMS.

Abstract : The structuring of data in a computer is a most important consideration because the data structure directly affects the efficiency of a program, both in the amount of memory storage needed and in the time taken to execute the program or to compute the result to a request made of the system. The report is a survey of the methods used to store data in computer systems and graphics systems in particular. The data structures of the common higher-level languages (FORTRAN, ALGOL, and PL/1) are briefly reviewed. Then ring structures are introduced (Sketchpad, CORAL) and some particular structures that are used with graphics systems are described. At the end of the report there is an annotated bibliography which lists most of the available literature on data structures and related topics. (Author)
