This study aims to understand traveler behavior under normal and unexpected travel conditions in real-life situations. The results of a comprehensive behavioral survey conducted in Brussels are reported. The issue of diversions from normal travel patterns is investigated in particular due to adverse weather. By studying the influence of weather and traffic information, roadway characteristics, individual attributes and situational factors on response to adverse weather strategies can be designed to better support traveler decisions.
