This papers deals with the new subject for education of mechatronics in Brno University of Technology. The new subject “Energy Harvesting” is prepared for students of the master study programme mechatronics. This subject presents overview of power sources for autonomous mechatronic applications. Nowadays power sources can be classified as energy reservoirs (batteries, super-capacitors, fuel cells, etc.), power distribution methods (wiring, laser, RF, acoustic, etc.) or energy harvesting methods. This new subject deals principally with unique ways of generating energy from surroundings of engineering systems.
