533 Gbit/s (50/spl times/10.66 Gbit/s) over 1655 km straight-line transmission was demonstrated, for the first time, by employing 14.7 nm wide gain-flattened Er-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) chain pumped at 1480 nm.
