The simulation of tram route service improvements

This paper describes the development of a simulation model of tram route performance within the context of an equilibrium model of public transport system operations. Various measures of system performance are described and these are used to describe the variation in tram performance along a demonstration route. The model is then used to test the effects of varying tram cruise speed, number of doors on the tram, right turn flowrate at signalised intersections and total passenger demand (a).
