Pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema after pulmonary function tests in a young healthy woman.

Introduction Pneumomediastinum, or the presence of air in the mediastinum, occurs for a variety of reasons including inhaled drug use, labor or mechanical airway obstruction. We present a case of pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema after a forced expiratory volume (FEV) maneuver in a young healthy woman with no history of lung disease. To our knowledge, this is only the second such case reported in the literature.
