Building of Technology System of Pipeline Geohazard Monitoring Based on Its Characteristics

For the particularity of the harming object, the pipeline geohazards have their own characteristics, so the monitoring methods for pipeline geohazards should also reflect their characteristics. Based on the investigation of geohazards along Zhongxian – Wuhan natural gas pipeline and Sichuan-East natural gas pipelines, the volume distribution characteristics of landslides and unstable rocks along the pipelines were analyzed, and a new scale classification is put forward, in which landslides and unstable rocks are divided into four grades, small, medium, large and extra-large grade, respectively. The corresponding classification level indicator is 1/20 of the conventional landslides and 1/100 of the unstable rocks. This classification highlights the importance of small-scale geohazards along pipeline. According to the volume classification and combining with the risk rank of pipeline geohazards, a technical and method framework is put forward for pipeline geohazard monitoring. It reflects that no monitoring or only manual inspection is arranged for the small-scale, low-risk pipeline geohazards, while integrated monitoring, from ground surface to underground, from deformation to multiple fields, from disaster body to pipeline body, is considered to the large-scale, high-risk cases. This framework is beneficial for determining monitoring investment for pipeline manager, and choosing monitoring contents and methods for engineer.
