Analysis and research of a novel axial field variable flux permanent magnet synchronous machine with mechanical device

In this paper, a novel axial field variable flux permanent magnet synchronous machine (AFVFPMSM) is presented, of which the magnetic field can be regulated by a special mechanical device, and the mechanical phase displacement between two rotor discs can be automatically adjusted with the rotor speed changed. The 3D model is built and its electromagnetic characteristics including magnetic field distribution, winding flux and EMF, are studied by finite element analysis (FEA). The analysis results show that a good flux weakening ability is obtained in VFAFPMSM by an additional mechanical device.
