Facilitating Communication through Interactive Polls and Reminders

This presentation will showcase ways to incorporate online polling software: “Poll Everywhere” and “Remind 101” to facilitate teacher-student interaction either in synchronous or asynchronous conditions. Poll Everywhere is an excellent tool to engage students participating in either faceto-face or online learning courses; eliciting feedback and checking on comprehension while potentially accounting for unvoiced reactions from introverted students. Remind 101 is an instant messaging freeware that teachers can use to send (or schedule to send) course-related text messages to remind students about quizzes or assignment due dates a service which, considering that a great majority of students nowadays are deeply attached to their mobile devices, can be invaluable to teachers looking to increase both class participation and student accountability. Audience is encouraged to BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).
