DIAGNOSIS OF OSTEOPOROSIS FROM KNEE XRAYS USING LOCAL BINARY PATTERN

A computer-aided diagnostic technique, based on local binary pattern (LBP)intended for diagnosis of osteoporosis from X-ray images of the knee is proposed. The left knee X-ray images classified as osteoporotic and normal X-rays are taken and divided into training and test sets. The LBP histograms of training and test images are calculated and then with the help of Chi-Squared Distance metric histograms of training and test images are compared. For the test images,a lower score of distance metric signifies that LBP can characterize the texture of knee X-rays for classifying the osteoporotic and normal subjects.
