Generating and Transmitting Ambulatory Electronic Medical Prescriptions

This development was realized in the context of the introduction of electronic medical prescriptions for the ambulatory sector. As most physicians have a computer (pro- viding access to the patients' health records) and an Internet connection in their cabinet, the remaining connectivity prob- lem concerns house visits to patients. In following paper we describe the setting-up of a test-pilot, enabling generation of valid electronic prescriptions during ambulatory visits. Three aspects are covered here: the web client that generates the prescription, the mobile workstation (mini-laptop or personal digital assistant) and the integration into a national or transnational prescribing system.
