Wavelets as a numerical tool

The stability of a plane, premixed, adiabatic flame is re-examined for finite activation energies. Preliminary results are given for one-dimensional disturbances. The full governing equations for an unsteady propagating flame are then solved using a novel numerical approach called WOFD, a waveleto-ptimized finite difference method. This method is briefly described here and preliminary results are reported. As a result of this work, we strongly recommend that new and old algorithms should be tested at activation energies of 40 and 60 and compared to the results presented here as a gauge to the accuracy of the numerical solution.
