Reduction of bit error rate in high speed optical transmission systems due to optimized electrical drive pulse shaping

The optical pulse shape and the spectral characteristics of a laser diode are improved by optimized electrical drive pulse shaping. A reduction of the bit error rate in a 2.24 Gbit/s system is measured.
