Are Our Students Conceptual Thinkers or Algorithmic Problem Solvers? Identifying Conceptual Students in General Chemistry

Many bright students are more interested in the "why" of chemistry instead of the "how" of chemsitry or rather, they prefer to investigate concepts as opposed to algorithmic problems: The author demonstrates assesment questions that engage students along various points of the spectrum of algorithmmic problem solvers and conceptual thinkers and invites chemistry educators to engage more conceptual-thinking students.
