A Shorted Rectangular Microstrip Antenna with Slots in Ground Plane

In this paper the compact configuration is realized by placing shorting pin on the rectangular microstrip patch and by embedding slots in the ground plane. Typical experimental results of the proposed antenna are presented and discussed. It has been observed that with only slots in the ground plane, the fundamental resonant frequency reduces and there is an increased bandwidth, but with only shorting pin on the patch the resonant frequency decreases with reduction in bandwidth. The radiation patterns remain broadside.
