Misalignment Tolerant Primary Controller for Series-Series Compensated Static Wireless Charging of Battery

This paper proposes a primary controller without any communication channel for series series (SS) compensated wireless power transfer (WPT) system. The assumption of constant mutual inductance during load identification may disturb the controlling in case of misalignment between the primary and the secondary coils. Hence, in this paper, the controller includes the estimation of mutual inductance (M). The battery parameters are approximated with the estimated value of M, inverter output voltage, and primary coil current. The constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) mode of battery charging is achieved by estimating the exact battery parameters from primary-side in the cases of misalignment too. The controlling of estimated battery parameters have been done with the phase shift control of high-frequency inverter. This controller shows CC/CV charging of the battery, even in the case of the large variation in the mutual inductance. This makes the controller practically implementable. The proposed controller performance is verified in MATLAB Simulink with the different values of M.
