Research of Dual-band Dual Circularly Polarized Wide-angle Scanning Phased Array

A dual-band dual circularly polarized wide-angle scanning array, operational in the K/Ka bands is presented. A stacked-patch element, which is excited by two ports to provide left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) for TX and RX, respectively, is connected with active modules as part of a co-aperture phased array system. A sub-array composed of 2×2 sequentially rotated elements is designed to improve array's polarization purity and symmetry of radiation pattern. A 36-element (3×3 subarray) array prototype has been fabricated, which measured results exhibits good agreements with simulations. The circularly polarized bandwidths of the array are 7.8% at frequency point in first band and 5.3% at frequency point in second band, respectively. A maximum of 60° wide-angle scanning is also achieved at Dual-band frequency bands.
