Encouraging reflective practice amongst students: a direct assessment approach

Abstract Reflection is a valuable tool and skill to develop high quality learning, but it seems to be a troublesome concept for both participants and facilitators. This article outlines the benefits of reflection and presents two examples of direct assessment of reflection. Advantages and disadvantages of direct assessment are considered along with tips for those considering it.
