THE OBJECTIVES WERE: (1) TO DETERMINE IF AND IN WHAT WAY THE LIKELIHOOD OF DRIVER INJURY IS AFFECTED BY THE PRESENCE OF ALCOHOL, (2) TO DETERMINE IF AND IN WHAT WAY THE LIKELIHOOD OF DRIVER INJURY IS AFFECTED BY DRIVER AGE, (3) TO DETERMINE IF THE EFFECT OF THE ALCOHOL FACTOR IS THE SAME FOR DRIVERS OF ALL AGES, AND (4) TO INVESTIGATE HOW THE AGE AND ALCOHOL EFFECTS ON DRIVER INJURY CHANGE WITH SPEED. ALL OF THE OBJECTIVES ARE BASED ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT AN ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED. IN DETERMINING THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL AND AGE OF DRIVER ON PERSONAL INJURY, SPEEDS OF THE ACCIDENT-INVOLVED VEHICLES WERE HELD CONSTANT SO AS TO MINIMIZE THE EFFECT OF THIS FACTOR. A SEPARATE ANALYSIS WAS MADE FOR THREE LEVELS OF SPEED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE IF THE EFFECT OF ALCOHOL AND AGE OF DRIVER ON PERSONAL INJURY ARE DEPENDENT ON ABSOLUTE SPEED. /AUTHOR/
