DENSITY-INDEPENDENT MOISTURE DETERMINATION IN WHEAT BY MICROWAVE MEASUREMENT

ABSTRACT Moisture content of soft red winter wheat, Triticum aestivum L., has been expressed as a function of microwave attenuation and phase shift, measured at 9.0 GHz, independent of bulk density. The grain was held in 10.2>cm (4-in.) ID plastic tubing between two horn antennas of the measurement system. The calibration equation was veriHed with wheat of different variety and origin from the next year's crop. The average bias for the moisture content range from 10.7 to 20.4% was <0.10% and the standard error of performance was 0.26% moisture content
