A Control Strategy Based on CUK PFC Converter for PMBLDC Motor Drive for Performance Improvement

A permanent magnet brushless DC motor (PMBLDCM) is popular for its high efficiency, compact size, and high reliability, ease of control and low maintenance requirements etc. To operate PMBLDCM a three-phase voltage source inverter is used as an electronic commutator and it is observed that there is a problem of poor power quality, more torque ripple and speed fluctuations. This paper deals with the CUK converter fed PMBLDCM drive in closed loop operation. The proposed CUK converter fed PMBLDCM drive is modeled and implemented in MATLAB/Simulink. The proposed method improves efficiency of the drive system with PFC feature in wide range of the speed control, less torque ripple and smooth speed control.
